8.1: Early Humans
GOAL: Explain how artifacts and other archaeological findings provide evidence of the nature and movement of prehistoric groups of people.
QUESTION: How can artifacts be used to understand ancient people?
ANSWER: Archaeology helps us understand not only where and when people lived on the earth, but also why and how they have lived because we can look at the everyday tools and items that people used in their everyday life. When we find certain items, we can learn about what they were used for and then that helps us learn a lot of helpful information about ancient humans' lives and societies. People need food to live, and by studying artifacts we can learn about what foods people ate long ago, as well as how they ate them. A specific example of this is when we found the Rosetta Stone, it helped us with interpreting ancient languages, which was a big help in learning about ancient societies and communities.
